Willow Smith, daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, has been named the latest brand ambassador for Chanel.
Willow, 15, has been on the spotlight since she was a kid. At the early age of 9, she released a single “Whip My Hair,” making waves with not just her music, but also her style–dyed hair and piercings, edgy makeup and accessories.
She has also recently released her first album–ARDIPITHECUS–late last year. She wrote all of the 14 songs, and produced 10 of them.
The fashion giant released a statement saying: “The young singer, songwriter, actress and trendsetter has been wearing CHANEL for public appearances since 2013 and her first encounter with Karl Lagerfeld was in 2014 when he photographed her for the American magazine V. She was notably present at the CHANEL Fall-Winter 2016/17 Ready-to-Wear show presented this morning at the Grand Palais.”
Is Willow the right person for the job? Here are Vogue’s 11 reasons why she is the next big beauty star to watch out for.
Willow will be joining Chanel’s list of young ambassadors, including Cara Delevigne, Kristen Stewart and Lily-Rose Depp. She thanked Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld in an Instagram post. “Thank you Karl Lagerfeld and the entire team at Chanel for expanding the perceptions of ‘beauty’ by picking me to be the new Chanel ambassador,” she wrote. “I am honored.”
Jaden Smith, Willow’s 17-year-old brother, was also recently part of a big fashion campaign–Louis Vuitton’s “Series 4” spring-summer 2016–where he modeled womenswear.
