Reese Witherspoon sued for $5 million

Reese Witherspoon is being sued for $5 million for allegedly copying a design by another designer.

Jeweller Jordan Weingartner sued the Oscar-winning actress, who owns fashion label Draper James, for allegedly copying a design from her I Love Jewellery line’s “Magnolia” collection.

A report by Vogue provided photos of the two items: a Draper James tote bad with a flower and the letter “D” in the middle, and a keychain from the Magnolia collection.

“I drew the design for my Magnolia Collection back in 2008,” Weingartner said in an interview. “The flower isn’t a traditional magnolia flower, it is my artistic take on a magnolia. My design actually looks nothing like a magnolia and Draper James not only took the design, but also decided to call it a magnolia.”

Weingartner also claimed that she knows that actress knew of her design because she was sent a necklace asa a gift. She also claimed that Witherspoon ignored her attempts to reach out to her and settle out of court.

“They basically ignored us,”  Weingartner added. “So, we’re ready to fight.”

Neither Witherspoon nor her representatives have released a statement on the matter, but after seeing a draft form of the lawsuit before filing allegedly said: “Out of precedent, she doesn’t settle.”
